3.5/5 ★ – marko2312hd's review of Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.
Finally played this game all the way through, I got this when I was 11 with my PlayStation back in the day PAHAH, I did like 4 levels and then stopped cause I thought it was hard, I realise the game wasn’t hard. It was that sometimes you will shoot enemies but your bullets don’t feel as if they hit. Automatic guns seem awful and just miss if at range, if you want any chance to hit them you have to be really close.
It’s a cover shooter BUT you can easily god mode this game by corner peaking and shooting through walls instead. Good variety of guns I will say but overall it’s very just eh gameplay wise. It’s the overall aesthetic and its grimey nature that makes this game.
It acts as if it’s filmed on handheld and someone is following you around and I really like the details that go along with this, from getting downed it switching to a wide angle lens, to explosions making the sound tear and it makes the screen all pixelated. Shotgun headshots censoring bodies. It’s has some really cool little features.
The story isn’t anything to rave about, I was interested and then mid way through it sort of feels like it falls apart. I also don’t really know how we shot a big governments daughter in the slums of Shanghai. It just feels very far fetched.
The Shanghai looks amazing and they put a lot of detail in the rubbish filled alleys and the neons sighs glaring at the lens and creating all types of cool flares, you can sense a sort of Asian film inspiration from this game, along with its violence too. Thinking back to IOI back in the 00s they went to some dark story themes, Contracts having that crazy mission in the butchers place and you find a body of a teenage girl wrapped in plastic along with car air fresheners surrounding the room. Whereas the IOI today are very light. Of course I like both and I really look forward to their 007 game, but I would love if they would come back to a gritty shooter one day with the tech and things they have now.
Also this game feels like it just ends. Pahahahah, the lack of proper music too, it’s just very silent a lot of the game with the odd drone industrial noise that doesn’t feel it adds as much as it should.
This game reminds me of the film Only God Forgives. It looks amazing and has some interesting story stuff but doesn’t do much with it.
