3.5/5 ★ – mattbrookbank's review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is an odd game about people of the town Lumière. They live in a town next to a sea and across that sea they can see a giant monolith with a number painted on it. Once per year a giant woman wakes up and erases that number and writes the next smaller number, then everyone who is the age of the erased number dissappears.
The game starts with and stars expedition 33, mostly filled with people of that age who only have a year left to live as they set out to stop the giant painter lady.
The game has some high highs and some mid mids. Since the game has a 92 on opencritic, I was a little surprised to find I thought it was a bit over rated. I can't explain all my reasons without spoiling plot.. but the reasons I can explain are that the game (and most levels) can seem very linear, and the in-between content between those linear dungeon levels felt very flat to me (again for reasons I can't explain).
Anyway, it was a fun game with a fun battle system, fun start, fun end, dragging and odd plot decisions in the middle, and it left me with many unanswered questions, having a sort of unfulfilled feeling.
