4.5/5 ★ – mattbrookbank's review of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.
I enjoyed playing Death Stranding 1, but at the end of the game I couldn't help but feel confused about what I had just experienced.
I was able to follow the story of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach more easily (I'm still a little confused, but less so). DS2 is a wild, weird, sometimes touching, sometimes funny, fun experienced.
I think it helped being familiar with the world from the first game, because it's just such a bonkers sci-fi dystopian world.
Beached Things, the chiral network, porters, BBs, void outs, repatriates, DOOMs, 21 minute syndrome, APAS, APAS 4000, Deadman, Dollman, Die-hard man, Mama, Fragile, Rainy, Tomarrow, Tarman, East Fort Knot, West Fort Knot, Terminal Fort Knot. It's alot! Someone who didn't know this world might think someone describing it is nuts!
Aside from being able to follow it more easily, DS2 is also seemed to have a much improved pacing. The rate at which new tools and mechanics are introduced made it a more enjoyable experience vs DS1.
So good job Kojima Productions 👍. You did good!
