4.5/5 ★ – mattbrookbank's review of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
I wasn't really sure what to think of it from trailers and the pre-launch media, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is unlike any other video game I've ever played and I really liked it! Part immersive sim-lite, part walking simulator, part stealth action adventure. I would guess that people who don't already like the character of Indiana Jones and his movies, or people who are drawn to more fast paced action may not find this game as interesting and fun as I did.
It's very interesting to me that Nathan Drake and Lara Croft sort of borrowed some ideas from Indiana Jones, and probably made the endeavor of making an Indiana Jones game much harder. No matter what anyone came up with, it would probably be compared to these two mega gaming icons. Machine Games and Bethesda have some how found a way to ignore the games that took inspiration form Indiana and carve their own path out that feels very different, unique and original.
I really wanted to give this game a perfect 10 score, but there are a couple of things stopping me. First off, it would be nice to be given warning when a story mission is going to cause you to move locations. Secondly, and more damaging, I encountered some bugs one of which forced me to reload a previous save losing over an hour of gameplay and having to replay a portion of the game. So I totally think this one is worth checking out if the mixture of immersive sim-lite, walking simulator, and stealth action adventure sounds interesting to you or if you enjoy the Indiana Jones character -- but maybe wait a month or two for some more patches.
