3/5 ★ – mattbrookbank's review of Star Wars: Outlaws.
I was looking forward to Star Wars Outlaws after seeing the trailers and pre release videos. I decided to wait to play it because it didn't have the best reactions on launch and there were some other things I wanted to play more. I figured giving it some time to get patched would be smart. Then I read that they delivered with some big patches, even removing mandatory stealth sections of the game - allowing you to just do combat if you're caught... so I figured this would be the time to try it out.
Well, after finishing the main story, maybe it could have used some more time to cook. I experienced a complete crash, a section of the game where the controllers rumble would not turn off, and every time I would start up the game after my PS5 had been in rest mode, I'd get a big network connection or controller disconnected error.
Maybe worse than the bugs though, there were many, many situations where I'd get to a room, and just not know how to proceed.
Oh, I can climb on that kind of wall too? Oh, there is a tiny button on this wall I didn't see. Oh, a square on the floor can be a lift? But you just activate them my standing on them for 5 seconds? How was I supposed to know that?
Despite its numerous flaws, the bones of Outlaws are solid. It has some strengths in fun mix of stealth and action gameplay. Detailed and beautiful Star Wars locations to explore. A few fun cameos of famous Star Wars characters. Too bad for Outlaws there is already a series that hits most of thoes points, only better and without the bugs in the Jedi Fallen Order games.
