3.5/5 ★ – methylbenzene's review of Beyond: Two Souls.
I must say I am guilty of enjoying this game..
I mean I love Quantic Dream's productions and Beyond: Two Souls was no different. Here's the thing: there is only a 3 year gap between this and Heavy Rain but this game is a thousand steps above their debut game in nearly every sense.
The story was kind of simple but for me it really worked; spy thriller integrated into a larger-than-life multidimensional concept. Add to that some genuinely compelling characters and you have a great story! Makes me super stoked for the Beyond: Two Souls TV Show under development.
Great performances from the entire cast (Willem Dafoe being an obvious and expected standout), pretty good technical quality considering this was basically a PS3 game - certainly a massive leap over Heavy Rain. The gameplay is also deeper than whatever Heavy Rain had going on. Needless to say, people who seek gameplay-first experiences don't need to bother with this game as is the case with any Quantic game.
Beyond: Two Souls? Underrated
