3.5/5 ★ – mikeyoong48's review of Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

Finally checked off a massive PlayStation Studio blindspot today. Have always been curious about this one and now that I’ve sunk my teeth into it, it’s pretty much exactly what I though it’d be: an unambitious but charming and relaxing week of bite-sized platforming. What a joyous game tho, filled with some truly wonderful level designs set to a soundtrack that riffs on some incredible bops (jumping along to Uptown Funk and Toxic? Sign me the fuck up.). It’s constantly rotating its set of mechanics so you’re always doing something different too, a good breezy time for the most part! And here’s where the seams starts showing a lil. Some of the epilogue levels and requirements to platinum are frankly just insane. Asking for high level play in a game that’s designed for children with imprecise platforming? Need to know what the devs were thinking with this one. Ah well, it’s a tiny, optional part of the game so I won’t rail on it too much. I don’t know if Sony expected this to be bigger than it was but I felt like it ultimately accomplished what it set out to do: an accessible, fun title for the whole family to enjoy. Now on PS+ Extra!
