4.5/5 ★ – milez_away's review of Mass Effect.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition finally prompted me the chance to revisit Mass Effect and do that FemShep playthrough I've been meaning to do.
Rolled credits and this 14 year old game has really held up.
Now obviously, a big part of this is the great work done for the remaster. Put simply, it looks as good as I remember it being.
It looks a generation newer, load times are fast and it's great in 60fps.
And yes, they fixed the Mako, the handling feels much better and the vehicular sections don't feel like a chore anymore.
The gameplay mostly held up.
The gunplay crossed with some powers and squad tactics worked well. The squad AI were usually helpful enough (or at best, don't get in your way). The cover mechanic still suffers sometimes from not having a dedicated button and I'd often be left out in the open when Shepard wouldn't snap to cover.
This is Mass Effect, an RPG with an epic Sci-fi story with decisions and choices that have real impact on (this game's) outcomes. The writing is top notch, the acting good, and Jenifer Hale as Shepard was worth the replay.
*** SPOILERS ***
I tried my best to make new decisions.
• Failed to stick to Renegade, I keep instinctively choosing nice options. (except for those Council Calls)
• Forgot what class I originally had, and ended up choosing the same class again. (Will fix on ME2 respec)
• Failed to save Wrex, again.
• Chose Kaiden over Ashley.
So with my default play style (and bad memory of previous choices), I think this playthrough was probably similar to my first.
