4/5 ★ – mkenn10's review of The Forgotten City.
From what started as an Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod, The Forgotten City is a full standalone game that has a ton to offer. In a generation of time loop games, The Forgotten City definitely stands out as one of the best.
The Forgotten City gives you a brief introduction in a modern day setting, but quickly catapults you thousands of years into Ancient Roman times. It is here where you must solve the mystery of which inhabitant of the small Roman town will commit a sin, which in turn will break The Golden Rule. This will cause everyone to turn into gold statues, causing the loop to start all over again.
The characters and dialogue options are very engaging, and the more you learn through each loop, the more interactions become available. The opening game options actually have a warning to streamers and content creators to be respectful of spoilers, especially since there are several play styles and options that can be encountered.
The Forgotten City has several endings (I don't want to spoil how many), all cleverly based on a plethora of important decisions you have to make, which end up having some really interesting effects. This definitely gives The Forgotten City some fun replayability, in what took me roughly 6 hours to get my first two endings.
If you are willing to leave the combat heavy Elder Scrolls gameplay at the door in favor of some unforgettable dialogue based moments, then The Forgotten City is a game for you.
