moonscented's review of Assassin's Creed III.

on my replay of these I was actually very excited to revisit this. I think this string of replays has really reminded me that this series used to take its characters and story VERY seriously. That’s a good thing! And something I actually really miss about this series. The Kenway saga especially introduces some really interesting and great characters, ones I used to dismiss or not care for but now I actually really enjoy. Specifically Haytham Kenway, however, this introduces a new issue. that being- why in the god damn would you waste him this way? I do actually love playing as him for the first few hours of the game, I think the Templar twist is super cheeky and fun, and I think establishes what this trilogy I think gets right a lot of the time, the Templar x Assassin conflict in the middle. I think he’s waaaaay too absent after sequence 2 however. The best part of this entire game is EASILY sequence 9 and 10, these sequences are spent with Conner and Haytham working together. Something I didn’t really notice before this playthrough, is that Haytham is 100% right about everything he tells Conner. I think it gives the player a lot to read into if they’re interested in the mythos and conflicts in this series. Conner is fine, his robes are the coolest of any protagonist, no contest. stealth is broken, animations are janky, combat is fine. traversal and parkour is decent in Boston, BAD in New York. all in all, I dislike some new things but like some new things also.
