5/5 ★ – moonscented's review of Batman™: Arkham Knight.
I remember around the time this game released, so much of the conversation was surrounding the batmobile. All you ever heard about Arkham Knight is how awful, how atrocious, how tedious and stupid the batmobile is. I don’t know if it’s a symptom of time, or since AK our standards have just dropped, or maybe we were spoiled at the time. The batmobile is not bad at all, in fact, it’s g o o d. If the worst this game has to offer is batmobile tank fights, this is an easy ten.
The god damn CONTENT in this game is amazing. The story expands on this universe that rocksteady started with Asylum, it does weird comic book esque twists and turns with its story, and the trademark Arkham combat is at its most complex and fun here. I think these games still take it a bit too easy on the player, even on the hardest difficulties, but the enemy diversity is exceptional and I think really evolved the combat system in a great way.
It has its flaws, not every story beat lands the way it’s meant to, I do think as much as the batmobile system is overly hated, I’d say it’s worst quality is how often you have to do it in between the much more fun hand to hand combat. And idk what the fuck WB’s obsession is with Troy Baker, this guy voices TWO DIFFERENT CHARACTERS in this game, THREE CHARACTERS throughout all the Arkham games. Why! Especially given that his voice kinda ruins a big reveal in the story.
But as my friends I’m sure are tired of hearing, this is THE Halloween game. Even over Bloodborne. The atmosphere is so perfect, it’s spooky and gritty, several moments in this game feel like a horror game. In most ways, this is the best Arkham game. I still love Asylum a bit more, but every technical aspect of this game is leagues above it.
