5/5 ★ – mosdepo's review of Resident Evil 2.

RE2 Remake is my first proper Resident Evil game, and BOY, have I been missing out! Feeling powerless in videogames gives me tremendous anxiety. That’s why I don’t play many survivor horror games. Yet I could NOT put this game down! The world of Resident Evil 2 is a one big interconnected jigsaw puzzle. The whole gameplay loop of exploring every corner of every room, finding every piece of the puzzle, and trying to figure out how they all fit together is just too damn ADDICTING, thanks to the METICULOUS level design as well. And man, the RE Engine is just a MARVEL; I could NOT get over how INCREDIBLE everything in the game looks and how BUTTER SMOOTH the gameplay and movement feel. Also, the enemies are disgustingly BEAUTIFUL, dismembering their limbs in every encounter felt oddly satisfying haha, and the sound design of the grotesque monsters and the creaky environments is anxiety-inducing in the BEST ways possible. The world is filled with intriguing lore, and I loved exploring the gorgeously designed areas and environments to uncover all the little secrets. The story overall was nothing to write home about, but it's the characters that made it for me. I fell in love with both Leon and Claire, and in both runs, I was fully invested in their journey and all the characters they met along the way. It was fun playing the two scenarios and seeing how the changes in each run play out. This game is SPECIAL, a most memorable and unique experience.
