3.5/5 ★ – mrc100360's review of Over The Hedge.

This is a game I use to play a lot when I was a kid and it was one of the games that introduced me to video games as a whole so maybe this might be just me going into this with rose colored glasses but out of the movie licensed games I’ve played. I do think this is one of the better ones. If your someone who likes animated movies from the 2000’s like Over The Hedge you’ll really like this as well!! The one big flaw about this game that everyone is 100% right about is that it can get really repetitive especially if your someone who doesn’t like beat ‘em up games like this. I don’t mind the repetitive nature of this game because I do like beat ‘em up games and I like the physics of whenever a character swings around an item ( golf club, bat, shovel, etc ). Something I also really admire about this game unlike a lot of movie licensed games is that the game does try to expand the world of the Over The Hedge movie with the amount of animal enemies, worlds, and story. The game literally starts towards the end of the movie and you get to see what all of these characters are doing one year later after the movie. You see the house where Glady’s Sharp ( the Karen lady from the original movie ) moves into after she’s been arrested ( only assuming because the game doesn’t address that she ever got arrested to begin with like at the end of the original movie ). You also get to team up with Vincent the bear in one or two stages because he wants revenge on VermTech. I think even the final stage you actually get to go to VermTech Institute so you can save Heather. Little details like that do give this game a little more personality than a lot of movie licensed games. I think in order to really get into this game you do have to like the original movie and you do have to get into this beat ‘em up style of gameplay. It’s not a perfect game by any means but as a 2000’s baby, this is a good guilty pleasure game!!
