3.5/5 ★ – mrc100360's review of Sonic Frontiers.
I don’t think I’ve bought a new 3D Sonic game for myself since Sonic Lost World back in 2013 mostly because of all the disappointing things I’ve heard about Sonic Boom and Sonic Forces. But I have to say, from someone who use to play Unleashed, and from someone who got to play Sonic Generations on Xbox 360 earlier this year. Sonic Frontiers is one of the most solid Sonic experiences we’ve had in a long time!! From the first world I’ve played so far, I would say that this game is like Super Mario Odyssey but with Sonic characters and a Breath of the Wild-esque aesthetic. If you think you’ll like that then you’re gonna love this game!! It’s not perfect by any means but it runs well, it’s fun traversing through the open areas, and bouncing from one big Sonic obstacle course to another feels so much like a Sonic thing to do. And I’m saying this from someone who got the Switch version of the game so I can imagine how well the PS4 and Xbox version of the games runs. I think it’s the leap forward we’ve needed from the Sonic franchise for so long and hopefully the current Sonic franchise can stay the course and not rock the boat too much.
