4.5/5 ★ – musitive's review of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Jedi Survivor is a fantastic follow up to Fallen Order in almost every way possible. Let me just get my two minor nitpicks out of the way first. First, I found the story wasn’t as satisfying as I’d hoped. It is precisely what I thought I wanted going into the game, but by the end I couldn’t help but feel like the first game’s story was more compelling. That being said, there were some very good story beats, so don’t get me wrong, it definitely wasn’t bad. The second gripe was that the performance wasn’t always ideal. The first hour or so on Corusant was incredible, but the pop in and framerate drops on Koboh were inexcusable, even on performance mode. These prevented it from being a 5 star review.
On to the good stuff. First, the sound design and ost were phenomenal. They took the good tracks from the first game, like the logo music and the drum cannister upgrades, and supplemented it with a fantastic new score. And the sound effects were SOOOO satisfying. I believe this carried a lot of the satisfying combat.
The new stances were fun, tho I found myself sticking to the default single blade stance. Without a poise system like the souls games, I found the other stances more frustrating.
The world design was fantastic too! Koboh felt like a mini Breath of the Wild, but far more jam-packed with things to discover. The level designs and puzzles were far better to, being much friendly for backtracking. This game includes far more shortcuts than the first, so very rarely do you find yourself repeating puzzles to visit a past area, which was an issue the first game had.
Overall, an excellent game, and I can’t wait to see what they do with the next one!
