3/5 ★ – nate_mckeever's review of The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe.
A comedic walking simulator that gets really weird while simultaneously wrestling with the dilemma of human choice. Kinda.
I’m just coming to terms with the fact that some games just aren’t for me. And this pillar in gaming is one of them.
That being said, I do think people ought to play it. It’s very much a reflection of a time in gaming where developers were exploring the idea of what games could be. It has a certain charm and I was often pretty amused at the Narrator’s commentary but ultimately the game just kinda fell flat for me. I get it (I think), in just didn’t really like it that much. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t for me. Thankfully the play-throughs are short enough that it you can take lots of little nips at it. Which you’ll need to, to see all of the endings.
The tl;dr- this a heavily caveated should play. It’s important in a historical sense and the brevity (and levity) direct make it too big a lift. But honestly, I’d rather just play Portal.
