3/5 ★ – nathamilius's review of Elden Ring.
oh elden ring, my first from software game, you were certainly a good time but you are the must sick and fucked up game in other ways. for positives, the special weapons a cool as fuck radhans sword, rykards sword, mohgs blood spear are rad and they are just given to you like that. the music is actually good the background music for limgrave and caelid are beautiful without sounding much of anything, caelid especially the sound of flies buzzing in the soundtrack fits the dark land of caelid. also stepping into the chest trap to then be in caelid is soo what the fuck moments. thats another positive, they game just has soo many secrets like that like the elevator to sofria river even though thats one out of very few secrets like that makes you feel while playing with the toughts of what else is this game hiding. but exploration is something that i have a slight problem with. i hate how most of the game is gated off from you, what i mean is if it is an open world experience, i want to go wherever i want regardless of level and difficulty of enemies. speaking of levels, getting levels is such an ordeal. the only real way of getting levels is by killing main remembrance bosses and those are quite hard to come by and besides a real cheese farming spot ifyyk theres barely and runes to spare in the game. even the hardest enemies in the last half of the game dont ever give anything worth while and its all down to the bosses to level you up. not to mention the stingy ass upgrading system for your weapons. seriously you dont feel like you are not getting anything worthwhile because 1 you need to have a certain level requirement to wield most of them and 2 you have to level it up to your current level. overall the balance in this game is all fucked up and because by fixing one thing with this game you are making a problem with another. from software needs to realize that every game doesn’t need to be a butt fuck hard nightmare and that we should all enjoy a nice and balanced game. and thats another thing, the bosses in this game never feel nice to win, only 3 really felt like i actually won against them radhan, rykard, and mohg (the ones i like the weapons of coincidentally) all of the rest of the bosses i had to result to using the most broken or unfair tactics just to have a standing chance against them. i feel like i would’ve liked this game more if it was just a linear game but if we had that it would’ve comprised the vision for this game and from software again like i said would have comprised in some cases. also the game feels really slow controls wise ds 3 did it better. i think what also factors to that criticism is how massive this game is. yes this game is one of the massive ive seen but really the open world is filled with nothing of substance i did not have any interest with exploring because nothing gave me anything worth while. and it took too long to get to. i kinda hope that this will be a one and done thing this open world idea but really im just want from to do better. stop with these game compromising ideals like making the hardest game and instead make a complete and well balanced experience. ultimately they have a real solid base for a next entry i hope they can make me eat my words on not wanting another game. also story sucked…
