4.5/5 ★ – nathanhaller's review of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

Bungie is back. The original Halo trilogy is my favorite gaming trilogy ever. It’s a magical trio (particularly Halo 2 and 3), and I’ve always wanted to have Bungie recapture that magic. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is simply fantastic and Bungie has finally given us their best campaign since their days of Halo. Destiny has been a guilty pleasure of mine. I don’t remember who said it, but it’s a great “party chat with shooting” when you play with friends. It’s had an interesting world to explore (visually and lore-wise), but it’s never truly captured that in the campaigns itself until now. With The Witch Queen, Bungie gives you meaty missions with all killer and no filler. Boss fights galore and they’re all designed exceptionally well. The story and the lore surrounding it is centerfold giving us an interesting new character to fall in love with all while providing great moments for existing NPCs. I was intrigued with what was happening the entire time and they found a way to deliver a simple story to follow while also giving Destiny lore fans a lot to bite into. I suggest playing the campaign on Legendary. It gets you much closer to the power level cap of this season, and gives a challenge to the campaign never seen in Destiny. It reminds me of the Halo Legendary days, and highlights all of the hard work of the team. Overall, I haven’t been this happy since with Bungie since Halo: Reach. This is the best Destiny has been. With all of the big seasonal changes we’ve had over Beyond Light, a fantastic Void 3.0 rework, a stellar story, and a fantastic Legendary difficulty for said campaign, all Bungie fan should play this. The campaign alone is worth the price.
