4.5/5 ★ – nemixx's review of Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

to me this game is like a warm hug. it’s my comfort game. as you can tell by me review of dying light, i really loved the first game. coming into this game i had really high expectations, and they were met. i don’t care about what anyone says, i absolutely adore this game. sure it has some noticeable flaws, but to me, the qualities overshadow these by a lot. i loved the atmosphere (although it doesn’t close to being as good as the first one), i love the story, the characters, and most definitely the dynamic between those characters. to me, dying light 2 is a game that intends to tell us the story of the characters using the main plot as a way to expose the real focus of the story (the characters). i loved aiden’s development, i LOVED hakon’s development, and i loved lawan’s development. my favorite character is definitely hakon, and i really enjoyed his redemption arc and his dynamic with the other characters. i loved seeing aiden slowly let go of mia, only to in the end be confronted with the choice of staying with mia or saving his friends. in my first playthrough i picked to save lawan, destroying the city in turn, because to me that’s what the game was about: letting go of mia. i got the hakon ending, which to this day is my favorite ending and the ending i consider canon. the truth is the atmosphere of this game isn’t as good as the first game’s, but it’s still cool. i really felt connected with the different factions and was really engrossed in the conflict between the survivors and peacekeepers. the only thing i really didn’t like is how they clearly differentiate the survivors as the good guys and the peacekeepers as the bad guys, which is just more proven in the end of the game. if you decide to let lawan go through with her plan of saving the city, in the end, the city and be governed by the survivors, the pks, or the renegades. if the survivors rule the city, everything is good. if the pks rule the city, it shows people dying of thirst/ hunger, and conflict still going on. if the renegades take hold of villedor, its absolute chaos. the soundtrack of this game is really good, and the sound effects themselves are also really unique, like the music fading when out of parkour, even just for a bit. to conclude, i love this game. i’ve played through it 10+ times, and i will keep on playing. its a great game and a great sequel!
