5/5 ★ – nemixx's review of Dying Light.

my favorite game of all time. i remember playing the demo for the game with my friends, being really impressed with the fact that you could play coop and the story at the same time. we would spend hours and hours playing the demo just goofing around, having to delete and re install it every time 😂 but because i was a broke ass 8 year old i couldn’t buy the actual game yet. it wasn’t until 2018-2019 that i finally was able to buy the game, and i fucking loved it. i loved every second of it, the story, the characters, the mechanics, and DONT even get me started on the ATMOSPHERE!! i remember after finishing the game, i immediately started a new save, deciding that i was now gonna play on the hardest difficulty (nightmare) and boy was it a good decision. playing the game on the hardest difficulty DEFINITELY gave me a different experience and perspective on the game, which only made me like it even more. i have since never stopped playing the game. every couple months i decide to play through the story again, and the nostalgy hits me every single fucking time. the development of kyle crane was fantastic. the game really immerses you into the conflict present in the city, and really does make you worry about the tower’s safety. it contains some tragic deaths that just push crane’s development to a whole another level, and the voice acting is so fucking good! dying light might be the game with the best atmosphere i have ever played. as soon as you’re able to leave the tower, you really just get that feeling, i don’t even know how to explain it, but the ambience mixed with the soundtrack of the game just makes you feel like a harran citizen. no matter where you look, you will see flags, graffitis of people begging for help, barrels on fire, dust particles, and that mixed with the color palette of the game is just amazing. the game has a generally grey/brown color scheme, that is contrasted with the green trees, blue skies, orange sunset. these colors contribute to the feeling of hopelessness of the apocalypse, keeping it grounded in reality while also selling the idea of a city devoid of life and on its last legs. the sound effects also plays a huge part in this. for example, when you’re in the top of a building for example, the only thing you can hear basically is wind, really giving you that feeling of being in the top of the world, or when you are in the ground running and your vision starts to blur and you can hear the wind almost like you’re actually running. another thing that i find really impressive is the fact that the game doesn’t feel like a copy and paste background. every street feels different, with different stores and different houses, really contributing to the feeling of immersion! the soundtrack on this game is SO GOOD it really brings you back to the old times, and just makes me miss being a kid goofing around with my friends on the demo. i definitely recommend this game, especially to people who love the zombie genre and the parkour aspect.
