4.5/5 ★ – nicestreetsabove's review of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.
This game is WILDLY underrated. Between its incredible aesthetics, tight gameplay, and (especially) its interwoven systems, Sakuna is a brilliantly fun, super rewarding game to play. I love how, despite the baked-in separation between farming and fighting, the two halves support one another in such a fascinating way. Add to that a compelling storyline that gets doled out in unusual (but unique and engaging) ways, and you have a game that is an absolutely fantastic expansion of the Odin Sphere/Muramasa school of game design. Sakuna requires a lot patience - especially in the game's occasionally obtuse mechanics and brutal difficulty spikes, both of which are very much supported by the overall goal of the game's narrative - but that patience is always, always rewarded.
