3.5/5 ★ – nldemo's review of Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer [duplicate].
Whether you played Crypt of the Necrodancer or not, Cadence of Hyrule is a masterful blending of Zelda world and mechanics with the Necrodancer rhythm fighting systems.
We played this entire game co-op, and while it definitely simplifies things I would highly recommend it for maximum fun.
Unlike Necrodancer, CoH shares very little rogue lite elements. You do have a currency that carries over when you die, which you can use to buy items to make your next life a bit easier. But after the first couple deaths, you'll find your deaths very few and far between. Instead, you have a large world map, reminiscent of a Link to the Past, that you can explore, gain upgrades, complete dungeons, and more.
The remixed Zelda soundtracks, the ability to play as Cadence, Link, or Zelda, the use of Zelda items and weapons all make this game a very enticing skin over the original game. I would actually recommend starting here, and if you just can't get enough of that rhythm combat, go ahead back to the original game.
Perhaps the only downside to this game is that some of the weapons are much too OP. There were certainly times we found ourselves just brute forcing through the fights, because we didn't NEED to think about them, and this is because of how powerful the early game broadsword is. You could of course just not use that sword... but it still exists regardless.
The length is short and sweet, the music is great, the look and feel is all wonderful. 7 shovels out of 10!
