4.5/5 ★ – nldemo's review of Super Mario RPG.

Because this is mostly just a very polished remaster and I am short on time, I am not going to write a full review. Instead, please enjoy this bullet point summary. - Mario RPG remains one of my favorite RPGs of all time. It is the video game version of a really well done slice of cheese pizza. Nothing too fancy, simply quality. - Geno and Mallow are still an amazing supporting cast - The platforming in this game is definitely the worst part of the game, which is very not on brand for a Mario game. Luckily, there is not too much of it. - The combat is pretty simple and not very challenging, especially with the remake changes. Specifically, getting your timing right on attacks will open up extra damage AND aoe, which in my opinion is a welcome addition. - Addition to hot swap party members makes the game more modern and enjoyable for me - The team attacks (think team limit breaks) are also super cool and fun to watch. They are very effective and not really necessary until... - The end game super bosses are all super strong, although some of them have some annoying quirks that must be battled in ways that are NOT grinding. Culex 3d is a totally cool fight and worth the work to get to, but he is gated by the hardest 1on1 fight in the game. - Bowser's character is probably his best implementation ever in this game, and you gotta love those crying animations. - I never did get 30 super jumps in a row, let alone 100. I normally capped off around 13. - For how hidden the secret casino was, the rewards could have been a little better... - The lazy shell is super obscure and nigh impossible to find without a strategy guide. That said, it's totally worth looking up to go grab it. - Other quality of life buffs such as quick travel from the main menu are much appreciated. - Can't wait for the thousand year door remake, as there is no more left of this game to play :(
