4.5/5 ★ – ohmightyqueen's review of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
Playtime: 39.5 hours
What a fucking game. Everything about this game was essentially a masterpiece. I honestly only have a few minor gripes that are hardly worth mentioning.
The music is outstanding, the carry over from the OG (which I played and completed earlier this year for the first time) was incredible, they made an already amazing sound track even more awesome.
From the first moment we saw Aerith I was absolutely stunned by the graphics, it genuinely blew me away and I wasn’t ever disappointed in the rest of it. Every tiny detail felt so expertly crafted.
I enjoyed the changes to the story and pacing to make sense of it and have a complete game in this small section of the story. Surprised at how they stretched something that took me 4 hours in the OG game to almost 40 hours.
Seeing the world of Midgar come to life in such a spectacularly accurate way felt amazing and really gave homage to the original game and how advanced it was for its time. The world really felt alive, and it was fun just walking around slowly seeing the incredible sights of the city the developers made come to life.
The battle system did take a little to get used to, but once I had it, it was great to use. I appreciated the auto mode while you figured stuff out all while not wholly taking away your autonomy of battles.
Another appreciation me for is the SP auto mode. It was quite over whelming when I first started and to be able to play the game while letting it do this automatically was a relief.
My single gripe - the maps during the side missions were horrible to follow, I felt like this really extended those missions beyond what they should have been but enjoyed completing them all nonetheless.
Now to play the INTERmission and wait for Rebirth to be released on PC!
