3.5/5 ★ – oldultan's review of Prodeus.

Prodeus is so close to being a game I would obsess over. It's worth playing to experience the gunplay alone; each weapon feels fantastic and the ammo economy is balanced well enough to make you use all of them. Unfortunately, the enemy variety doesn't encourage balancing that economy around enemy types. You're really only picking a weapon based on distance rather than how it operates. They're basically either ranged or close-up damage sticks. The Nexus respawn system also fails to encourage the mastery that boomer shooters are famous for inculcating. While you can ignore it, the game simply doesn't have enough staying power to beg you to stay. Community maps help this somewhat but not enough to make me play it again. Still a great time for a once-through, though!
