4.5/5 ★ – paulstuart's review of Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
Was my favourite game as a kid and this may be nostalgia tinted glasses speaking but it still holds up to this day despite the whole vibe being unmistakably 2000s from the soundtrack, to the piss filter. However there is some things that I didn’t particularly like which I was either too young to notice or just didn’t care.
The rubber-banding is far too turned up and does not hide itself whatsoever, particularly in Earl’s Blacklist boss races, you could be 20 seconds ahead and within a matter of a few corners he can be right behind you again. Another case is when I was using the Gallardo, I was struggling to keep ahead of a fucking Fiat Punto.
Another thing is the pursuits right up until around heat 4, are just boring. You’ll spend your time making sure you don’t lose the cops rather than trying to escape, especially whilst trying to complete the recycled Blacklist pursuit challenges.
Despite those 2 things, I do still believe this is the best NFS and don’t think it will ever be topped.
Again, the vibe is just impeccable and the soundtrack is still so good today, 0 skips.
The car list, a bigger mix between tuners, exotic and muscle as before has a car for everyone.
The pursuits, when they finally ramp up, and the RPD throw literally everything at you (including trucks hit by the chopper) create a rush I have not felt for such a long time during a racing game and brought me right back to the times I played it as a kid, pure fear and adrenaline.
Fantastic game and still one of my favourites of all time but noticed a few things now I’m older that hold it back.
