5/5 ★ – pborkowski12's review of Titanfall 2.
I know I’ve already reviewed this, but screw it; this game needs all the attention it can get.
It’s really sad that the developers of this are now stuck making a battle royale or a mediocre Star Wars game. “TF2” (not that “TF2”) is one of the most fun and creative FPS game, or just games period, I’ve ever played. It’s embarrassing how much this game just outclasses all other multiplayer-focused FPS games. While series like “CoD” have been doing the same thing for years, “TF2” is a breath of fresh air in every category. Even when they do similar things (like “Infinite Warfare” with its similar movement system), no one seems to be able to do it as well as Respawn did.
The multiplayer offers so many possibilities for games that there’s always gonna be variation. Ignoring the plethora of varied game modes, even an average deathmatch features a ton of different titans, pilots, weapons, ordinances, and the list goes on and on, boosted by the liberating movement system. All the skills counteract each other, meaning it’s hard for one player to fully dominate. The Titans are excellently designed, all having their pros and cons. Some are super easy to use, but their ceiling is limited. Others are incredibly difficult to use, but can be devastating if used effectively. Then there’s the Tone, the Satanic death machine everyone loves.
The campaign is what really separates it apart from other titles. It has so much heart and effort put into it, it’s jawdropping. It doesn’t make the mistake many FPS games doing of making an overly long, mediocre campaign that gets boring after the first few hours. “TF2”’s campaign is short and sweet, somehow fitting more creativity and innovation into 4-5 hours than some games do 10-12. All this is bolstered by a campy, but enjoyable story, with the relationship between BT and Cooper serving as a great emotional center for the story.
Combined with excellent production values (the game looks, sounds, and controls wonderfully), “TF2” has easily stood the test of time, outdoing many of its more successful contemporaries. I pray Respawn gets another crack at the franchise, because the thought of a Titanfall even better than 2 is so exciting.
