3.5/5 ★ – philip_acquaro's review of Battlefield 3.

Started: March 7th 2025 Beaten: March 7th 2025 I’m like 99% sure this was my first fps I’ve ever played and I remember being obsessed with it 11-12 years ago. I first played it at my cousin’s house in Tijuana who Id visit for a weeks time like twice a year. Among letting me play many N64 and GameCube games of his that he grew up with, he let me play a good chunk of the campaign in this game which I remember thinking was the most bad-ass thing ever while my aunt, his mom, wouldn’t be too happy about him letting me play it given I was much, much younger than him. Still though, I ended up getting my own copy a pretty long while after and I played the multiplayer here and there with a close friend of mine but I mainly was enticed by the campaign as that first part of the game where he jumps on the train is STILL etched into my brain. However, I never actually beat it to completion, even though it’s pretty short. Because of this, and also due to recent nostalgia, I decided to play through the whole campaign today and and I’m glad it wasn’t just the nostalgia that made me believe it was good. Despite some iffy character models, the graphics still hold up well on the PS3 and the gameplay is a blast from mission to mission! Only parts I wasn’t really crazy about were the plane and tank segments which I understand are there to add more variety but at least there weren’t too many of them. Story can seem generic at first but it actually is really interesting by the end. It is a little disappointing the multiplayer shut down exactly 6 months ago from the time of this writing but I’m still happy the campaign will always be there. Also, I haven’t reviewed any games recently because I’ve been hooked on Marvel Rivals and Mario Party Jamboree, both of which I’ve poured countless hours with my friends, but i’m gonna try to get more single player games from my backlog completed from this point forward. That being said, maybe i’ll check this game out again sometime, hopefully not a whole decade later again tho lol.
