Probably the best Marvel ‘crossover’ game out there. I would understand if someone were to say the best is Marvel Rivals (if you’re still into it in its current state) or Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but man to me this felt like such a passionate love letter/celebration to marvel and all of its characters and as someone who’s been a big marvel fan since childhood, it was a very special experience. Whether that be to the Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, or Spider-Man, every level is a big tribute by a team of people you can tell really cares not only about the Marvel Cinematic Universe of movies at the time but also of the source material. I first played a big majority of the campaign (about 10 chapters out of 15) around 2014 and forgot to finish it and then after 7 years around 2021 I went back and restarted it and got up to 7 chapters done without completing it, so i decided after getting into comic book super heroes again this summer with the release of James Gunn’s Superman, the MCU’s Fantastic Four film, and reading lots of silver age Amazing Spider-Man comics, I said let’s finally beat it after 11 years from start to finish. Given it’s been that long, going through this was also a big nostalgic trip for me which I really enjoyed. It’s also putting my memory to question because I hardly remembered certain things. Regardless, I loved every bit of it. They bring you to tons of really great and memorable atmospheres from the Marvel Universe and or from New York each involving a group of heroes such as grand central station, the baxter building, times square, Oscorp, a big prison housing super villains, Stark Tower, Asgard, Latveria, and the X-Mansion to name some of the best levels. Really liked how they mixed up heroes from separate teams such as one member from the avengers, one from the X-Men, and another from the Fantastic Four a lot of the time. The puzzles were all great fun as they each take advantage of specific heroes powers to either take down a boss or enemy or help the other heroes get across or gain access to progress the level. Some levels near the end were a bit of a miss to me such as the tropical isle level where you stop Mystique and the Rhino as well as the space ship level where you stop Magneto. I don’t know why I guess since you’ve already been to lots of high tech lab esque environments the Magneto one didn’t really work for me and the tropical isle one just wasn’t that fun. They were the only parts of the game that i didn’t like though. The set pieces in this game are insane, whether be it the opening with the huge Sand Man, the Giant Statue of Liberty that gets controlled by Magneto, or the massive Galactus at the end that takes every hero and villain to stop. Overall a really short but great time!
