4/5 ★ – philip_acquaro's review of Resident Evil: Village.

Started April 6th 2024 Beaten: April 28th 2024 This was a really great game! I know people prefer the more creepy atmosphere of the seventh or just the seventh game as a whole but I honestly think this game is on par with it. I played and beat the seventh game around the time the eighth game released and started the eighth game a year after it released but didn’t get around finishing it. So this past month I decided to restart it and finally finish it! The gameplay is so fun and it’s always tense maneuvering around each enemy while taking them down one by one. Everything was so creative and imaginative in this one too whether from the villains and their personalities or the atmospheres of each place you go to with the doll house being the most scary and the factory being the most stressful. If I had to point out things I didn’t like id say the parts where you have to move around the village were pretty tedious. It’s not so much the game’s fault but because I had trouble remembering if i had been to a section of the village already or not or when i’d have trouble figuring out how to get to the next part of the village. Since these areas are so expansive, I sometimes feel overwhelmed with it, feeling as though i’d get lost or confused on where to go but luckily I wouldn’t take too much time to figure it all out. I also thought the ending was a little disappointing since Ethan dies even though the twist was really interesting. Other than those couple things the goods heavily out way the ‘bads’. I also had fun with all the boss fights and or mini boss fights that chase you or fight you. I was actually pretty stressed out a lot of the time in these sections such as when running away from the giant propellor guy in the factory or the huge slug baby chasing you in the doll house. When a game genuinely puts you on the edge of your seat and stops feeling like a video game, that’s when you know it’s a good game. Both the seventh and eighth games are incredible experiences and while they are still entirely different types of games when compared to the rest of the franchise, they both feel as if they take place within it regardless. The fourth game (original and the remake) are my favorites of the series but after, these wouldn’t be too far behind in my ranking of this franchise.
