0.5/5 ★ – pigeonspiderr's review of The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame.

Most other Lego Games, at worst I will still enjoy but have a few gripes with, but this one, I hate it with a passion, heres why. 1. The gameplay I personally like the gameplay of the other Lego games, but this one reuses the Lego Worlds engine, and I’m fine with Lego Worlds, don’t love it or anything but its decent. But it doesnt work for this game, surprisingly the one about building, and its because unlike lego worlds where you can build freely, THIS ONE MAKES YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! Y’know, the opposite of what the first Lego Movie is about? And outside of that what you actually do in the game (collect purple universe looking bricks) is so simple its not fun. Lego Incredibles did this too where gold bricks were scattered around and easy to get, but incredibles had actual ones to make up for it. And the quests in this game are the same 5ish repeated over and over and over. 2. The story Now I’m personally someone who doesn’t need a game to have a story, but if its telling one, I want it to be good. This one is not good. Now while it is a compainion piece to a movie, its still allowed to retell the story, hell even the first Lego Movie game did that, but this one takes anything I liked about The Lego Movie 2’s story and throws it out or makes it contrived. Such as Lucy staying behind with Emmet, meaning they aren’t split up for the story, or Rex Dangervest not being shown hes changing Emmet to become him, and something that does remain, Emmets friends being entranced by the Queens stuff, being super downplayed. In all the story is so halfbaked, the Rex twist isn’t even revealed until the ending cutscene! WTF? 3. The Levels Gotcha! Theres actually no levels in this, instead theres different worlds you travel to, doing the boring gameplay grind i described earlier. This is the big thing that ruined the game for me, the levels are always my favorite part, because they can really change up what you can do, but by making them apart of the open world it really limits them, and The Lego Ninjago Movie Game avoids this issue with the open world feeling more like it was a level first, world later, here its painfully obvious. 4. The Character Roster The levels were the wound, and this the salt that goes in there, because the Characters in this game are SKINS! In previous games the roster is always the best part, all these characters with different abilities, animations, voice lines, here, they matter as much as they do in a game like fortnite, purely cosmetic. This. Sucks. 5. The voices I’m not gonna harp on this too much, but moreso just mention it. The voice acting in this game SUCKS! Now this is in no way an insult to the voice actors, they do a great job in the delivery, but no one really sounds like who theyre playing, ESPECIALLY UNIKITTY! They sound like “The Lego Movie Impressions” by Brian Hull on youtube. 6.My personal vendeta As a child, I loved the lego games, I had about every one developed by Tt, and around the time this game released, I started getting allowance, so I decided to use it to buy this game day one, when I got it, I popped it in my switch and…. disapointment, this was nothing like the games I loved, I trudged through it, once i finished I never touched it until a few days ago when I ran through it one final time for my “Every Lego Game” play through I’ve been doing, and as we see, I still do not like it, I hate it, I will never like it, and its in my opinion the worst game ever, now objectively of course theres worse, but for me, I can’t find any enjoyment in this except laughing at Unikittys voice. 1/2 star out of 5, never playing this again, EVER.
