4.5/5 ★ – pixelsaturn's review of Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered.

Time to beat: 12 hours Platform: Playstation 5 This is my third playthrough of Marvel’s Spider-Man and I’ve now decided that I’m going to replay this and Miles Morales at the start of October every year. The PS5 upgrade is honestly nothing to write home about, but the 60fps and improved visuals are a nice addition to what was already a gorgeous looking game originally. I also really grew to like the new model for Peter, to the point where the old model looks weird to me now. There are just so many spectacular (haha) moments in this game. But I think what’s really gonna solidify this as a comfort game for me is how perfect the story is. I could play through this story over and over again and it still manages to move me in all the right ways. The last hour, man. God damn. I also love going to visit Uncle Ben and Aunt May’s graves at the end of the game. It’s so simple, but such a rewarding little gameplay moment to just walk over to that cemetery and interact with Uncle Ben for those brief few seconds. This might be my favourite iteration of Doc Ock too, his arc and the descent of this father figure you keep returning to throughout the game is utterly heartbreaking, and I think the writers at Insomniac did an amazing (haha) job of still making Otto feel sympathetic even when he’s at his most villainous. He’s almost pitiful and it kinda really hurts??????? The way he’s voice acted and animated too hammers home the fact that he’s not really a super villain, just a guy. I LOVE the Sinister Six in this game too, I think each of them have been so perfectly interpreted for this version of Spider-Man and they’re such memorable characters in this game. The boss fights are all really fun and engaging and always make great use of the environment which makes them feel really large in scope. It’s all just wonderful spectacle with a giant love for the source material at its core. THAT’S what keeps bringing me back to this time and time again, the love and care that the dev team clearly have for these characters and this world. It shows. I love it. I can’t wait to come back next year.
