4.5/5 ★ – poo's review of Outer Wilds.

so so cool, chill and pretty. really unique and ofcourse another absolute banger from the geniuses at annapurna interactive. graphics, atmosphere, world design, vibes, top notch. it is a bit overhyped in general, i’ve been hearing about it since it came out how it’s so profound and makes you change your view on life but i don’t really get that, maybe i haven’t played into it enough. i don’t really have anything bad to say about it apart from autopilot sent me into the sun once and there maybe should be a little bit more guidance so you’re sure you find everything. the game uses the concepts and physics of space so so well, it’s almost like actually exploring space and it’s so so cool and pretty and also can be pretty scary, especially the (spoilers starting now) black hole situation on brittle hollow and that station you get sent to. more so giants deep, the changing gravity and tides and all the tornados really freak me out. i have yet to explore the core of it yet which i assume is underwater so that’s gonna be an experience. apparently the dlc is horror esque and i definitely have to try that so that’s gonna be an experience edit: i finished the game and while the game itself is good and the meaning is very beautiful, i personally think that the meaning is overhyped, and so is the ending somewhat. (the ending is still so cool and very good, if it got GOTY 2019 i would have very much agreed with that) im sorry but the people saying it changed their whole outlook on life must have been 14 when they played it. its a good meaning, but people saying it changed their life or they stared at their screen for ages after the ending are so ridiculous. i thought it was a very common idea that change is going to happen no matter what, and you should just stop and smell the flowers? people say this all the time? this has been said before and its not as profound as people are making it out to be. people are making out like this is the first time this idea has been explored. i’ve had this sort of mindset for a while now after a lot of impactful life experiences and changes recently, so maybe im just the wrong type of person the meaning is aimed at (more naive or younger audience perhaps) but overall as an art piece and a game, outer wilds does an amazing job at conveying the message. a game everyone should play if you can get into it
