3/5 ★ – rafaelpires815's review of The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan.
My overall experience with Man of Medan was ok.
I've enjoyed the idea of playing multiple small horror stories instead of investing too much time on a single story. It makes it easier to not be bored.
But there are two things that I didn't enjoy: the amount of technical issues and the jump scares.
There are a lot of frame-rate drop, texture popping, clunky controls, high response time. I hope this is fixed in the next games because if makes the experience worst as it can be.
For the jump scares, don't get me wrong, I like a good jump scare, but this game uses it as a way to make the game scary, instead of focusing on trying to create a compeling horror atmosphere. A lot of these jump scares are just cheap. For example the jump scare when they are telling horror stories on the boat, it doesn't even make sense. Let's compare with Silent Hill 1, for example, it has very few jump scares, but the atmosphere is much more scary, at the end of the game I was left with that unsettling feeling, at the end of Man of Medan I just felt annoyed.
