4.5/5 ★ – rileynickers's review of Spiritfarer.

The indie game you’ve maybe heard of but probably won’t play but you most positively should. Spiritfearer is a magical game in every sense. The game takes place in a fictional realm where you play as Stella a young girl who is challenged with the daunting difficult task of escorting spirits who are manifested in this magical realm as animals in to the next life. In a world where ast of us’s god of wars and Mario’s get all of the atention. This game can be a hard one to get in to, for most including me. At the surface the gameplay appears to be repetitive item management gameplay. IF the storytelling wasn’t as good as it is. Most would drop this title in the first hour. If you however are like me and struggle with anexiety on a daily basis those repetitive systems and actions are soothing. No spoilers but every single character you will meet in this game dies. (This is in the trailer). Every death was inevitable and I had to take them along this journey. I kept telling my self don’t get attached, this is obviously what I’m supposed to feel but it was inevitable the characters in this game really make spirit fearer special. Making new memories and recovering old fractured memories,. Spiritfearer is like a puzzle with the pieces scattered across the map. I’ve never played a game with such emotional engagement with lessons that are right in front of your face but that you won’t uncover until you’ve helped a spirit pass on. in your face real life problems represented by fantastical. This is one of those games that will hit you hard and take you on journey. This is a game that will stick with me for life. My love goes out to the dev team for pouring your heart in to this. My condolences to all those who play this. You will fall in love and you will cry and you will wish you hadn’t. Death is not easy it is no game
