3/5 ★ – samazone's review of Devil May Cry 5.
If there's one thing that truly amazed me about Devil May Cry 5, it’s the cinematic cutscenes. They were so entertaining that I didn’t skip a single one.
One of the scenes I looked forward to the most was whenever Nico got a call and made her crazy, hilarious entrances in her van never got old. Those scenes weren’t just “breaks” they added a unique vibe and made the experience stand out.
The variety in characters and combat styles was the main reason the game stayed fun throughout.
V was the absolute highlight of the experience. His fast-paced combat made his missions incredibly enjoyable and exciting.
Nero, on the other hand, felt more skill-based, but I felt like he was slower compared to the others, which made his missions feel less exciting to me
As for Dante, while his weapon variety was impressive, it felt a bit too much and hard to manage during fights.
When it comes to difficulty, the Normal Mode was way too easy for me. If you’re into challenges, I’d recommend starting straight on Devil Hunter Mode without hesitation.
Honestly, I thought the music was the weakest part of the game. It was just okay and rarely caught my attention. On the other hand, the dialogues, characters, and comedic touches were excellent and really added to the charm.
The ending was satisfying, but the sudden reconciliation between Dante and Vergil didn’t feel natural. Their hatred for each other was such a big part of the story, so seeing them make up so quickly felt like a rushed decision by the writers!
One moment that will stick with me is when I had to kill Griffon and Shadow, the creatures that were an essential part of V’s combat style. Especially Griffon, or as they called him, “the chicken.” He brought a lot of humor and balanced the seriousness of the story. The way their relationship with V ended was and heartbreaking.
Despite a few minor flaws, the game is absolutely worth playing, whether you’re a fan of the series or just looking for a great action game to dive into.
