0.5/5 ★ – sheldoman's review of Final Fantasy XI.

This is it. My lowest rated Final Fantasy game. I played this for a few months when it first came out back when I was in high school. I wish I could replay it and give it a more fair score but 1) They still charge a monthly subscription fee to play this game that's nearly two decades old. and 2) It won't run on my computer even if I wanted to pay for it again. So I have to base this on my memories of the game. When I played FF11 it was my first MMO and I loved the idea but quickly began to hate the game. There were five different races and I wanted to try them out but the game would charge extra money to make more characters. I found that every character kind of looked the same and there were very little cosmetic options so all of the characters in each area basically wore the same armour. I had fun in the starting area and the second area was okay, but then I got to the Dunes. In the Dunes you needed a full party to take down a single enemy. We would spend nights trying to pull a single rabbit towards us to fight by the exit of the map in case a second rabbit showed up and we could escape before it wiped us. We would grind all night and not gain a single level. At level 18 I was excited because I could take on a second class but then learned that you needed to level the second class separately which meant starting over from level 1 in that class. I explored a few different areas of the game and had fun running around. I really wanted to get high enough level to wear the cool armour but never could. If it's ever possible I would like to give this game another chance, but my memories of the game are mostly negative and I think of this as the worst Final Fantasy game.
