2.5/5 ★ – sheldoman's review of Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2.
This was fine but not great.
I've played a few of these Lego games and I haven't really loved any of them but they're a fun enough time waster and they don't require a ton of concentration. I like the Marvel characters mostly (though this one focuses more on new Marvel stuff which I don't care about) and this game a big collection/puzzle solving element which is fun. They also have a unique sense of humour which didn't really work for me in this one but I appreciated the effort.
The controls are awful. Every button does multiple things depending on the character and the situation. Like sometimes square will punch, or shoot, or activate a switch, or will charge up if you hit it too fast. X can jump, or double jump, or fly, or web swing, or if you tap it too fast it will think you're charging a super jump and will lock you to the ground until the jump is charged. Any time there is a platformer type puzzle in these games it would get me so angry because my character would never do what I wanted them to do.
Also related to that, I found my characters would never lock on to the thing I wanted them to. So say I wanted to shoot an enemy across the screen. I would hit square with Iron man and instead of him shooting the enemy, he'd punch one of my teammates. Or he'd attack a random object nearby. Or if there was a group of enemies and I was trying to attack the enemy in the gold armor that only Iron man could hurt, he'd seemingly lock on to every other enemy in the area.
There's not much else to say about this. The funnest part about previous games was the world map and running around and doing the missions and unlocking the characters but it didn't feel as satisfying in this one. Also more than a couple of the quests would glitch and be impossible to win unless I reset the game. Though the world map here is really cool.
I don't know. This game isn't bad but I wouldn't call it good either.
