4.5/5 ★ – sheldoman's review of Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate.

Probably one of my all time favourite musous. This game has a huge character roster, satisfying gameplay, a decent story, a pretty good variety of different game modes, and is kinda challenging at times. Getting the plat was rough. It was a huge grind and I was not prepared for just how long some of the trophies would take me. I checked the PS Trophies app which keeps track of playtime and I spent over 400 hours getting the plat on this game. I'm going to use this review to document some of the more challenging trophies. First one worth mentioning is getting all of the mystic weapons. To do this, you have to play as a specific character on a specific stage on Chaos difficult and achieve some specific challenge that is not told to you (stuff like beat 800 enemies in under 10 minutes, or beat certain officer in under 5 minutes). You can't switch characters at any point and I'm pretty sure you can't use musou bar either. I had to follow a guide and even then some levels were almost impossible. And because the roster of this game is so huge this trophy took a long time. Next up is the true triple rush attacks. In this game you select a part of three to take into any level. If you take a certain combo of characters they can perform a special combo if you start with a certain character of the 3 and start a regular combo and switch characters midway through. It's not too bad if you follow a guide but it took me a bit of time experimenting to actually get it to work the first time. Also I completed the list without getting the trophy and realized I might have forgotten some combo so I had to try a bunch of them twice before I realized which one I missed. Then came the biggest grind in the game. That is the Gauntlet mode. There are two main gauntlet mode trophies. First one is completely clear Gauntlet mode. To do this, you have to actually beat Gauntlet 4 separate times (to unlock the four different difficulty paths) and then on the 4th time you have to replay all of the stages in paths 1-3. This takes a really long time but you know what takes longer? Completing the "requests" in Gauntlet mode. Some lady stands around saying "I need you to do something for me" and then you have a huge list of challenges to select from (stuff like "kill 500 bandits" or "beat 500 famous officers" or whatever). You can only take up to 5 challenges at a time (meaning you have to kind of coordinate like if you take on bandits and tigers you have to find a level with both for maximum potential clearing). And some of the enemies are determined by RNG and are very rare. I spent an entire Saturday just refreshing the same levels over and over to see if "Escape Ninjas" would show up. It was torture. Last, but not least, were gain all strategy cards. There are 2 strategy cards for each character. One for just unlocking the character and the second comes from 1 of 4 things. 1) Beat that character in a duel on duel mode. 2) Max out character's proficiency. 3) Beat specific levels on chaos. 4) Get over a certain amount of wins in survival mode. There's no indication which characters need proficiency and which you have to duel or which levels you need to beat on chaos. Just have to guess... or follow a guide. The proficiency was a little grind-y and the survival mode was a little frustrating but overall this one wasn't too bad. Anyway... I really liked the game and it's probably the platinum I'm most proud of at the moment. I took off half a star because the game has these weird difficulty spikes where a level I'd beaten 10 times no problem suddenly becomes unwinnable due to luck or whatever.
