2.5/5 ★ – slayzie's review of Assassin's Creed® Unity.
Wow this story fuckin sucks…. How do you make the french revolution a Romeo and Juliet love story?? What??? I’m not even gonna section this one because I gotta rant and ramble a bit.
Unity is one of those games that the story just leaves you feeling like nothing, like what was the point of all of this. I noticed at the end of the game I didn’t really care for the events that just took place which really drags the rating down. I know a lot of people praise the parkour aspect and the setting of Paris but I don’t think that necessarily makes the game that much better. The parkour isn’t really that smooth to me at all and at times was often janky resulting in so much deaths (because I was unable to escape) and the setting and time period is interesting but Ubisoft do nothing with it. Like nothing, Arno’s story basically has nothing to do with what’s going on around him and I believe this wouldn’t be a problem but everything Arno was doing left me confused to a point where I didn’t care for the story by the mid way point.
The stealth and Assassination missions would be a high point if the AI detection system wasn’t fucking horrible. Like seriously, who the hell coded this because it genuinely feels like guards can see you through walls and if one guard sees you get ready to be swarmed the combat isn’t like AC3 and Black Flag where you could be a one man army, if too many guards swarm you, you’re going to die and getting swarmed happens VERY VERY OFTEN. The levelling system is one of the worst I’ve ever seen in a game and it just incentivises you to buy helix credits aka give into microtransactions to skip the grind. The way you level up in this game is by buying armour weapons and skills through francs or creed points, you earn these by doing missions mainly side missions and you’d think they’d make the side missions interesting and sure there are interesting side misisons but they give you nothing that helps you progress. The reward for doing the interesting and good side missions is nothing, I noticed that only the boring assassination missions on a random npc on the map gave you enough francs to actually get something and you have to do it MULTIPLE FUCKING TIMES. WHY TIE LEVELLING TO WHAT ARMOUR I FUCKING HAVE? WHY?? WHY NOT BY PLAYING THE GAME, YOU COULD GET TO LEVEL 5 (max level) AS SOON AS THE GAME PROPERLY OPENS UP IF YOU DUMP ENOUGH MONEY INTO THE GAME WHICH FUCKING SUCKS BECAUSE THEN IT MAKES THE GAME EASY AS SHIT PRETTY MUCH BECAUSE U HAVE MORE HEALTH, STRONGER WEAPONS AND ETC.
AND OH YEAH IF I AINT MENTIONED IT YET LET ME SAY IT AGAIN, THE STORY FUCKING SUCKS HOW DO YOU TURN THE FRENCH REVOLUTION, ONE OF THE MOST BLOODIEST AND GRUESOME TIMES IN FRENCH HISTORY INTO A FUCKING ROMEO AND JULIET LOVE STORY?? WHAT WERE THE WRITERS FUCKING SMOKING???
I’m going to start and finish Syndicate and then go back and unshelve the games I couldn’t finish because of glitches (Assassins Creed 2 and 3) and then take a break from the series
Slayzie Rating: 2.75 ⭐️ - Assassination missions in the main story and some aspects of the parkour carry, along with the graphics and the setting of Paris. Other than that worst mainline Assassins Creed game. Shit is fucking ass.
