3.5/5 ★ – slayzie's review of Spark the Electric Jester.

This game is pretty much the spiritual successor to Sonic 3 & Knuckles / Sonic Mania. If you enjoy those games I am like 99.9% sure you’d enjoy this game too, the level design is pretty decent although I felt like some levels pandered a bit and where too long. When first playing I breezed through the earlier stages but as I continued to go through stages I begun to notice that each stage would take longer than the last until a point where all levels / stages are gonna hit the 10 minute mark (maybe im just bad but I barely died on earlier stages) In terms of combat instead of copying Sonic directly it opts for a Megaman type of style where you can equip power ups to takeout enemies which can be very fun since specific power ups have specific commands which do specific things which can improve your mobility / movement, your range of attacks and your overall speed. The story is barebones I barely paid attention to it but I won’t lie the dialogue at some parts is pretty funny. Boss battles are pretty easy as all you need to do is jump and button mash the attack button but some boss battles require some precise platforming so some people might struggle. What’s stopping this from hitting the high stars like 4 is due to shit like the levels gradually getting longer and longer until the point where I was on the final stage and it felt like the game was just longing itself out with constant boss battles and stages just to piss me off. It didn’t help that when I beat one of the final bosses the game decided to delete itself and close on me so I had to do it again smh. Anyway good game just too long and tedious with its levels which include stupid enemy placements and gimmicks. Would 100% play again and would probably rate it higher because I’d be better at it. 3.5 / 5.
