4/5 ★ – summercomet's review of Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

This is great Tomb Raider content, this is what I wanted. Coming from Legends and not growing up or taking on the original games, I enjoyed Legends as a game but felt that it lacked a bit of substance that I couldn't put my finger on. Anniversary scratches this itch and does what the previous entry tried to do but succeeding in crafting a much better gameplay experience. Gameplay, gunplay, and segments (despite being a straight TR1 remake), are greatly improved and everything seems a lot more focused and polished when it came to the mechanics of Anniversary. The level designs and missions were greatly benefitted by the movement system and felt so good to jump in. It's like they fixed up the gameplay of Legends and decided to use it to create a maximized experience of the original game for modern audiences. I am a bit bummed they didn't give this treatment to the other entries but beggars can't be choosers. The only issue I really have with this game is that the story is pretty mundane which is a bit redundant since it's a remake but still, Legends at least told a pretty interesting story. However, it is made up with great puzzle solving and a much more improved Manor level to keep you distracted. Overall, a great improvement on previous entries and one that I could see influencing IPs like AC and Uncharted. Definitely a worthwhile experience through and through.
