4.5/5 ★ – super_bentendo's review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game.
I’m going to keep this review short and sweet just like this game. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game and I’m excited to stick with it and continue beating it with different characters. So far I’ve beaten the game with Scott and just started another play through with Ramona. This game isn’t long at all and I would be surprised if it took you longer than 5 hours to beat it the first time.
My biggest issue with the game is that it sometimes felt too difficult even on the easiest difficulty. This was until I realized that, like in Japanese role-playing games, you can grind out stat points and levels to make your life much easier. I would highly recommend doing this if you feel like you’re taking too much damage or not dealing enough.
My highest praise with this game goes to the amazing and upbeat soundtrack created by anamanaguchi. This soundtrack is one that will have your blood boiling and bopping along as you go from one stage to the next. I love this soundtrack so much that I often listen to it by itself on Spotify. I would also like to praise the pixel art style of the game because at any given point you’re bound be looking at something vibrant on your screen.
I would finally like to mention that this game follows the graphic novel series very closely (more than the movies). I’m definitely not the biggest fan of the beat-em-up genre but I would make an exception for this game because it is that damn fun. Give it a shot if you haven’t already.
