5/5 ★ – thegoodidiot's review of The Rogue Prince of Persia.
Playtime: 12 hours
Platform: PC/Xbox
Price: Gamepass
I had been keeping an eye on this one waiting for the 1.0 release so that I could try it and was surprised to see it happen so suddenly and hit Gamepass and PS Plus. This game hooked me instantly. From the moment I booted it up the art style was striking and the music was driving the game forward with intensity. I was pleasantly surprised but once I began to get used to the platforming I was blown away. This is the tightest feeling platformer I’ve played in a long long time. The only game I can think of off the top of my head that matches the fluidity and control is Super Meat Boy. It moves at a blistering pace but never feels like it’s too fast to control. That first 3 hour session flew by instantly and I was craving more. The roguelike elements are pretty standard for the genre but the amount of content is really nice. It took me 12 hours to finish the story unlocking every area to visit but I still had tons of perks, weapons, costumes, and modifiers to unlock. I could easily spend 30+ hrs playing the game going for the 100%. My only nitpick is that the bosses are a bit easy and while that’s fine for a standard run, the story run final boss being so easy is a bit of a let down and it would have been nice to work a bit harder. The modifiers do a good job of adding difficult and made the game very fun for my entire run. Definitely a soundtrack I will be getting on record Day 1.
