trudes's review of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

*Switch port* Not gonna give this a rating as I think it would be unfair, but I've abandoned this after a lot of forcing myself to play it. It's an exceptional game in so many aspects and with challenging combat, but the puzzles killed it for me. I'm simply bad at puzzles. I'm no idiot, but my brain does not lend itself to them at all. As much as I wanted to complete Senua's story, experience all of the harrowing sound design, and work through its depiction of psychosis, I was spending hours on puzzles that were not satisfying and the majority of the gameplay being running in circles isn't my cup of tea. If you enjoy puzzles and are good at them I can see why this would be a favourite, but unfortunately the elements of the game I thought were impressive were stifled out by my lack of motivation to move through the puzzles. Play time for me is about 6 hours but I'm only about half way through the game because of my ineptitude when it comes to hunting for symbols. Also, if I were finishing this, I would really wish I had played on something other than my Switch, because it (understandbly of course) doesn't look great. I tend to avoid buying games digitally because of the fact there's no resale value if I don't like it... And yep. Got stung on this one. It's gonna be sitting archived on my Switch forever just taunting me.
