4/5 ★ – user5282's review of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii – ★★★★☆ New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a fantastic return to classic side-scrolling Mario with a modern twist. It captures the spirit of the original 2D games while adding just enough new ideas to keep things fresh. I’ve replayed it multiple times over the years, and it still holds up as a fun, challenging, and well-designed platformer. The biggest addition here is four-player local co-op, and it’s a blast—equal parts teamwork and chaos. Whether you’re helping each other or accidentally bouncing your friends into lava, it’s consistently entertaining and makes for great group play. The level design is tight, with plenty of secrets, alternate paths, and a nice difficulty curve that builds as you go. The game also introduces the Propeller Suit and Penguin Suit, both of which are fun to use and fit nicely into the level mechanics. Visually, it’s bright and clean, and while the art style is a bit safe, it still looks great in motion. The soundtrack carries the familiar New Super Mario Bros. sound, which can feel a little repetitive, but it’s catchy and upbeat all the same. If there’s one critique, it’s that it doesn’t take many bold risks—especially compared to other Mario titles—but it’s still an incredibly solid, fun, and well-crafted game. It may not be groundbreaking, but it’s a great time from start to finish. A strong 4-star experience and one of the best local multiplayer Mario games out there.
