3.5/5 ★ – vassm's review of We Were Here Too.
"We Were Here Too" is the sequel in the "We Were Here" franchise, and it definitely amps up in length and complexity, but not always for the better. While the eerie atmosphere and sudden audio jumps kept us on edge throughout the whole game, the pacing suffered from unnecessary padding, making some sections feel more annoying than intended.
The puzzles were a mixed bag, some were briliantly inventive, others downright frustrating. The final elevator puzzle, the battle sim tabletop, and the poorly explained maze had me frustrated (Seriously though, I spent like 15 minutes jumping on the balcony trying to see clearly, only to accidently look up and click and magically get in bird's eye view :D)
However, highs like the candle puzzle, mosaic, and knight customization puzzles reminded me of why I loved these games. I thought they were brilliant and I loved describing things in detail.
Speaking of detail, there was a loading screen tip that reminded players to describe every little thing in the game when communicating with your partner, and the devs were not kidding when they put that in there. One vague hint could send you spiraling over three nearly identical swords or shields (and pine trees...happened to us a handful of times XD).
The sound design was flawless, the broken audio UI and dead US servers was less so lol. We had to use the European servers to make a room lmao.
"We Were Here Too" is a solid, but flawed at times, sequel that stretches the formula thin in places. Still, the co-op magic lingers, even if the ending left me pissed XD.
