2/5 ★ – veronica_p's review of The Boogie Man.

This was.. a game. A game with voice acting in fact. I don’t want to be mean but I want to know why Uri felt the need to start including voices in her games. Nothing on the actress, but Sophie had to be the worse as they took this 17 year old girl and made her act 7. I recognize that she acted a bit younger than her age in the Sand Man but this was something else… The plot is basic masked killer scenario where the player has to stop the “boogie man” from killing the rest of the cast. Bring in Keith (I forgot his last name) who is a detective that is urged by his boss to go on vacation to a castle. Cue, literally the entire cast from the past two games seemingly also going on the same vacation. That’s right, the people you have to save are literally the past characters including David, Shirley, Sophie and her dad. Plus, there is a reporter (whose voice acting I didn’t think was half bad!). While it’s nice to see the series go back to a traditional horror setup, the execution left a lot to be desired. It’s very hard to determine what you need to do given that the area you are in is so large. This goes double for instances where you need to do certain actions to get the good ending. Even if you save everyone, there a chance you will still receive a bad end because you didn’t do extremely specific actions which the game does not hint at. I genuinely had to follow a guide this entire game just because of how obtuse it was trying to figure out what to do or where to go next. I won’t even say the story is really worth experiencing. The only motivation for this game, truly, is for those that are curious about what the previous characters have been up to and getting to see them interact with the new protagonist. Overall, the weakest of the series so far.
