3/5 ★ – vr_'s review of Alan Wake: The Signal.
Overall alright, gameplay, like the main game, isn't necessarily all that "fun," but the fog enveloped Bright Falls is a unique enough location that I was interested enough.
This DLC better sold the idea of Alan's writing influencing the world around him, which makes me kind of wish that the mechanics of this DLC were more prevalent in the main game. With that being said however, I understand that had that been the case, the tone and tension of the maingame would have been quite different, so perhaps keeping it only in the DLC was the right idea.
This also had a relatively difficult final boss that while still kinda simple is a step up from the base game.
Nice and short but with minimal plot. It does however give a pretty interesting glimpse as to what Alan is enduring while in the Dark Place.
Had there not been an Alan Wake II or Control: AWE however, I think this DLC would detract from how the base game ended by not really adding much to what was already an extremely interesting cliffhanger.
