4.5/5 ★ – asoola's review of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

I finally finished FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH and I really enjoyed it! It’s been an emotional journey filled with joy, sorrow and hope. I personally think they handled the themes of the original FINAL FANTASY VII really well (I’ll talk about THAT scene in a bit) I really had lots of fun exploring the world with these amazing characters and I think the characters themselves were handled really well and even better than the original FFVII! Not only characters but also some scenes were handled way better as well! I really loved the story and I can’t wait to see how this journey will end in Part 3 🫶🏽. The soundtrack in the game is really well done and the “No Promises to Keep” song will always remain with me it’s a song that I will never forget! Now that’s done it’s spoilers time if you never experienced the story of FFVII whether it’s the original, remake or rebirth then here’s your spoiler warning ‼️ I really loved how the game explained the multiverse that was created when the characters defied their destiny back in Midgar! It may be an unpopular opinion but I love this direction they’re taking (maybe because I love stories that deal with multiverses) I think Zack Fair’s character is handled REALLY well in the game as well and his survival and presence doesn’t take away the impact his death had on Cloud which is good! I loved how Zack kinda was able to defy his fate and how he was willing to find a way where he isn’t in front of an army 😭 Anyway that aside I wanted to talk about something else and while this isn’t really a new story I feel like some story points were explained better here than the original too! No complaints from me honestly I love what they’re doing with the story and I can’t wait to see how it’ll end! Now that’s over let’s talk about Aerith’s Death ☹️ I actually really loved how they handled that and I feel like I’ve been saying “I actually really loved” a lot but it’s true I really love how they handled the story! The game gave me hope and as Cloud I thought I finally defied Aerith’s fate Cloud managed to save her but not really she still dies and that’s really heartbreaking, Cloud thought she survived but the rest of the characters was seeing her lifeless body ☹️ The game goes back and forth making me believe that Aerith survived just to reveal that she actually died after the battle was done and I think that’s a really well done thing! Losing someone can be hard and Cloud is unable to accept that she died so instead of mourning he is dodging the issue and acting fine like Aerith is still there to cope! Now I don’t know about you but I think this fits Cloud really well since in Crisis Core I saw how much Zack Fair’s death affected him! I think the characters reaction to Aerith death is heartbreaking especially Tifa’s ☹️. (I actually like their reactions here over the original FFVII) All in all I think her death is handled well in Rebirth! That’s all I wanted to talk about really! (story wise) Now gameplay talk I LOVED the combat gameplay and the exploring gameplay what I did not love and the reason I rated the game 4.5/5 is the mini games I found half of the mini games really frustrating and not fun personally speaking! Mini games aside the gameplay is really well done especially Zack’s gameplay it’s so good and fun to play as him they improved on his gameplay so now he punches and kicks and it was fun to punch and kick Sephiroth after what he did to my girl Aerith! Speaking of the final boss fight is really fun and emotional (first phase where Aerith’s theme plays) the last phase was really fun until Sephiroth did The End is Nigh move IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING but I got it at the end I learned how to avoid it and do enough damage before the move was done perfectly hehe! That’s all on my thoughts about FFVII Rebirth! Everything was done well and I love this emotional game very much. I’m gonna miss these characters and the well written antagonist that is Sephiroth but the journey is not done yet! Until we meet again in Part 3 🫶🏽
